Hi Adan, Bob, Bobby, Chuck & Steve:

* Imagine if a major athletic facility as the Apex Center (in Arvada, Colorado) was built exactly on the Torrance/Santa Fe county line. Imagine if Moriarty (in Torrance County) and Edgewood (in Santa Fe County) were in the same Recreation District which funds from either Torrance County or Santa Fe County could maintain a 12-hr per day public athletic facility.

* Imagine if Edgewood & Moriarty had a consolidated utility services co-op (including wi-fi), to keep the cost living down, as does Conway Corporation in Conway, Arkansas.

* This link is a good resource for seniors who normally don’t file a tax return, but who will want to file this year to get their economic stimulus payments - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/k1040a3.pdf - For purposes of the stimulus payment seniors have until October 15, 2008 to file their return.

The Estancia Valley is 30-40 miles east of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Estancia Valley is shaped like an oblong salad bowl on a north-south axis. The northern half of the valley is in the southern half of Santa Fe County. The southern half of the valley is in the western half of Torrance County.

New Mexico Highway 41, a former railway line, runs north-south down the middle of the Estancia Valley - with Galisteo, Stanley, Moriarty, McIntosh and Estancia on that route. Santa Fe, Pecos, Galisteo, Bernalillo, Chilili and Estancia are shown on a map from 1779. See below.

The Downs at Albuquerque is moving eastward on Highway U.S. 40 to Moriarty, Estancia Valley, Torrance County at the intersection of New Mexico Highway 41. The new Downs at Moriarty will be in full operation in Spring 2010 and may comprise 1,200 jobs.

Which Exit for Racetrack?

For the relocated Downs, to use either Moriarty's 1st or 2nd U.S. Highway 40 exit for racetrack traffic would be a very bad idea. For all the commuters from Moriarty, Estancia, and Stanley who have to get to work in Albuquerque 22 days a month, creating a log jam at either of those two on-ramps/off-ramps would create a lot of hostility from the locals.

Moriarty's 3rd exit would create a lot less disturbance. But the destruction required to build a bridge over U.S. Highway 40 at the 3rd on-ramp/off-ramp adds unnecessary expense.

But to build a NEW 4th Moriarty exit, 2 miles east of the 3rd exit, makes the best sense of all. A new bridge going due north to the racetrack entrance would, also, be the bridge going due south to the Moriarty Airport. Also, putting the 4th on-ramp/off-ramp and the racetrack slightly out of Moriarty's mainstream would encourage economic development by having businesses be attracted to the opportunity to in-fill with new commercial construction along old Route 66 between the 3rd and 4th exits.
