In New Mexico, only 45% of the adults are registered to vote.
On the best of election days, at most, 20% of the registered voters bother to
cast their vote. So, out of the 9% of New Mexican adults who attempt to select
office holders, only 5% at best, choose the winning candidates?
In New Mexico, neither the Sierra Club nor ACORN endorse third
party candidates. I believe that those so-called "Democrats" are taking
a stand that they want New Mexico's political system to be continued so that 55%
of the adults are ignored.
Why
Progressive New Mexico?
*
Outside of Bernalillo and Santa Fe Counties, the Green Party is too small to have
any clout.
* Within Benalillo
and Santa Fe Counties the Green Party is too disorganized to have much clout.
*
New Mexico is such a conservative state that Danny Hernandez' survey found that
any Albuquerque candidate found to be endorsed by an organization with the word
"progressive" in the name would only hurt that candidate at the polls.
*
In 1998, when I ran for Congress and needed to collect a lot of signatures, I
was amazed how many people didn't know anything about the Green Party and needed
an explaination.
* Many New
Mexicans I talked with respected the Green Party platform, but they came from
conservative families who wouldn't tolerate their abandoning the Democratic Party.
*
With New Mexico's sparse population we need a more encompassing organization to
get enough involved members who gets make a difference and get things done.
*
We'll concentrate on a progressive agenda for economic development for New Mexico.

If you're a member of the Green Party, the Labor Party, the
New Party, the Socialist Party, a more enlightened member of the Democratic Party,
an independent, or a non-voter; we'd love to have you join us.
